You know, it is, actually. This, right now, this is nice."

Clairikine Hits Lyon - Part 2 of 4

*  Frank Underwood: "You've got quite a long list of hobbies."

I have very patient friends, bless them. (Also, did I mention I've seen Fury Road three times this summer? Best 26€ I ever spent.)

Clairikine Hits Lyon - Part 1 of 4

Hey folks! For the next month I will be posting pages from my new travel comic Clairikine Hits Lyon, which I drew during my week-long visit back in August. A new instalment will be posted every week. Enjoy!

* It does a person good to go home from time to time! (You get to choose in which direction that might be.) Thanks to everyone who housed me for a few days in Lyon, bought me drinks and sponsored my food comas.

Cardialement: Lyon-Berlin 5

That's the end of the Lyon-Berlin series! And now back to a normal posting schedule (every Tuesday).
About the name I gave these (usually single-paneled) diary comics: it derives from "cordialement", a French word commonly used at the end of work emails or other types of official communication. One day I came across a typo that resulted in "cardialement" and therefore contained hints toward heart-related themes that I found rather charming. So I kept it and wrote it on my sketchbooks (numbering them as I went) to tell them apart.

A forgotten pleasure: when your Vélo'v beeps and you still can't pull it out of the station. / "FREAKING A!!"

Vélo'v is the rent-a-bike system that Lyon put in place while I was doing undergrad, and if you ask almost anybody, it's Lyon that started the trend in France, not Paris. The thing is that when you rent one of them, and it beeps, it means it's unlocked and the free first half-hour has started. Apparently kicking it does the job.

Cardialement: Lyon-Berlin 3

WIN.

* Paroles de Tum Sally

For those who missed it, the phrase refers to the infamous line Nicolas Sarkozy uttered after a guy refused to shake his hand at a convention. It roughly means "Shove off, stupid idiot", or probably something more colorful that I won't publish here. The lyrics here mean "You won't even shake my hand, even though I deserve applause."

Walking past my old apartment, I realize it was enough to drive anybody absolutely freaking insane.

Cardialement: Lyon-Berlin 1

More later.
This is the beginning of a new short series of comics: I very recently went back to France (mostly Lyon) for a week. And by recently, I actually mean that I got back home the day before yesterday after taking a flight at 7.25am. BED.
P.S. "Cardialement" is the name I chose for my real-life diary comics. More on that in a later post.

"We are now approaching Lyon, where the weather is a pleasant 12 degrees [Celsius]..."
"What is your basis for this assessment?!!"

Hé oui, c'est l'automne...
Autumn's back, suckas...
